Walking & Hiking
Walkers are in paradise with a number of peaceful and scenic walks, as well as the Kerry Way long distance track. But even if you do not take the long distance walk you can get a touch of the Kerry Way experience through taking any or both of the two well marked Loop Walks which
have been established recently in the Sneem area as part of the Kerry Way network:
The Lomanagh Loop Walk, a 10.75 km walk (~3hrs) through sheep farms and forestries with spectacular views onto the Kerry Mountains and over Kenmare Bay to Beara Peninsula. (you'll find a GPS track and more pictures here.)
The Fermoyle Loop Walk, a 4-5 hrs walk along Abha na Snadhma River to Coomassig Waterfall and on Fermoyle Mountain, also providing spectacular views on mountains and the sea.
If you like it shorter you'll find plenty more opportunities in and around Sneem. The Parknasilla Woodlands & Park, as well as the riverside walkway along Sneem's pier road through the Pyramids Sculpture Park and the Garden of the senses will thrill nature lovers!
Cycling
The 216 km Ring of Kerry Cycle Route which passes Sneem leads through some of the most beautiful countryside to be found in all of Ireland. And the many scenic and quiet back country roads offer many more cycling possibilities, bicycles can be hired locally.
Watersports
Sneem Harbour and Kenmare Bay provide perfect sailing waters. There is an excellent slipway for launching at Oyterbed Pier, which is also ideal for sailboarding and waterskiing. Safe swimming havens can be found at White, Silver and Glenbeg beaches. There are also perfect conditions for Sea Kayaking, Rowing and Canoeing.
Angling
Excellent shore fishing exists for wrasse, pollock, dog-fish, conger and sea trout! Escorted sea fishing trips are available locally if you're looking to catch skate, ray, ling, pollock, mackerel and dog-fish.
The Ring of Kerry is a scenic drive around the Iveragh Peninsula. Its 179km-long, circular route takes touches rugged and verdant coastal landscapes and rural seaside villages. Highlights are the Skellig Rocks, rocky islands with an abandoned 7th-century Christian monastery. More popular points include Muckross House (near Killarney), Staigue stone fort and Derrynane House, home of Daniel O'Connell near Caherdaniel. Just south of Killarney, Ross Castle, Lough Leane, and Ladies View (a panoramic viewpoint), are all located within Killarney National Park.
